Meet my rot spot

I've been off of here for a little while again so update time... My trans started acting up on the GTP (either the diff or the TC was starting to go nuts) and my old Intrigue popped up on CL so I was contemplating selling the GTP to buy back my Trigue. Well, things didn't work out with that buttttt this happened... >:)

Specs for the new car...
Gen V swapped, XP cam, 105# crow springs, titanium retainers, single roller timing chain, engine "refreshed" by machine shop 10k mi ago before cam install, intake/usual small stuff, TOG headers, custom stainless Magnaflow header-back exhaust, ZZP 3.2 MPS with belt wrap kit. 105k miles, 10k on the build. Has a Special Edition interior swap, aeroforce, yadda yadda.

That's a hot GP good luck with it. Looks like things worked out for the better.

Not bad Nick, not bad at all. I still need to shoot some photo's of my GP. going to be working on converting to E85 this weekend I think.

Thanks guys, yeah that definitely worked out great. This GTP is a monster, that magnaflow exhaust is loud and deep, almost too much for a DD. It almost feels like it wants to go fast too. And Jeckel, that's on my list after a built trans. I'm running that 3.2 non intercooled with absolutely 0 kr even when it was in the 90's the past 2 days

Nice rides Jeckel! I see that you are from Ada county, I'm from Canyon County. Only knew that because I thought the pic of your Yamaha Roadstar background looked familiar, Lake Lowell!
Also saw you Ada plates on your GP. btw nice looking GP!

I'm actually in Canyon County myself. Down by 12th and Greenhurst.

Ah makes sense! I am over by Montana and Homedale. I went ahead and got the 2001 Pontiac Bonnie yesterday! , Pulled into the drive way and found out im gonna need a new water pump! Not happy but you know it can always happen, Something is expected to happen on it since I only paid $2000 for it. Glad I got home when I did. It was a 30 mile drive from where I bought it from. I didn't hear the water pump bearings go out until I actually pulled into the driveway My thoughts to that noise was Nice! ( Sarcasm). So I will be making a trip to Autozone in a couple of days now lol ... But I think while I'm waiting I will detail the thing. :)

not cool :( but on the upside, you did get a tuneable car. where did you get it?

Oh, E85 conversion started, car is running well, still need some more tuning.

Not cool at all! :(. The car and transmission is in good shape!, but talked with the dealer today and told them about the Water pump maybe making the noise. and they said they would go ahead and replace it with not cost and my Insurance would cover all the towing cost on Monday. I bought it from 1st Choice Auto in Garden City. But there's one more thing :(, Starting to think instead of it being the Water pump it's a Spun rod bearing!... It's just my luck! Thinking about asking them for $500 to help with the repairs, Also thinking im just going to throw a Used 3800 Series ll I found on Ebay for $500 with 121,000 on it. And have my trusted mechanic install it for me. My $2000 Nightmare Bonnie :(. Do you have any Advice?

BTW: it sounds exactly like this :/. Didn't when I test drove it and on the way home. Really upsets me.

Slow down there turbo, you just got the car and now you want to replace the engine?! Let them replace the water pump and see if the noise goes away. A spun rod bearing is going to manifest itself in a much more obvious way than just a noise.

Ok, I will let them replace the water pump , Only reason it made me think it was a spun rod bearing was because it was a loud knocking and squealing. When I tried moving it onto the other side of the drive way yesterday, The engine felt very unstable and shaky . We will see what they say Monday I guess, Thanks.

Yes, don't buy a motor from ebay. I got mine from barger's on garrity with 23K on it, series III NA for 800. But first find out why its doing what its doing, and I know a guy that has done several motor / tranny swaps on these cars. very quick and does a good job. he helped with mine. let me know if it turns out to be an internal problem.

Here is my 2001 GTP.

I was going to say, don't buy a higher mileage series II for that, you can pick up a series III for fairly cheap with lower miles, especially N/A. A local picked up a supercharged Series III with 60k miles for $600 around here. And Jeckel, what did you do for your E85 swap? Injectors and a new fuel filter? Also you're using HPT right?

Well isn't there a pretty big difference between the Series II and Series III? And isnt the throttle body Drive by wire?... Won't I also need a different PCM and harness and some other things? Gonna see what the dealer says tomorrow...

You would have to swap all that stuff over. series 3 has better rods, has bigger valves, and I'm sure more. In fact, I have a set of 23K series 3 NA heads I would let go cheap. complete with the black VC's.

And Nick, I had already changed the filter about 2 or 3 months ago. but I put in some 65# injectors. we started a VE tune today, and got things between 3 and 5% on the rich side. I am not sure what the timing table is really running, but its pretty aggressive. and absolutely no KR at 80* outside. Might drop that 3.4 back to a 3.25 and see what happens. not sure yet on that drop... probably will tho :)

Sounds good, I'm planning on E85 once I save up for a built trans. It's only a matter of time till I blow my trans with my current setup, Gen V swapped on a 3.2 with an XP lol. I still can't believe I'm not seeing a single blip of knock even though it leans out around 95-100mph. I haven't taken it from a dig yet to see how it pulls (to avoid unnecessary trans stress, I may want to track it this fall yet) but I've done some pulls from 20-40 rolls and it pulls like a raped ape
