77 442

Hi everybody,
I'm now back home from Iraq and I still have no good leads on a front clip for my 77 442. I'm sorry I haven't been too involved in the forum for awhile but I've been prtty busy lately. I'm saving up some $$$$ to start the 442 project by the end of this summer. Hopefully I can get some pics back up and show the progress. BTW, if anyone has any other leads on a header panel and grilles for a 77 442 I'd appreciate it. thanks- It's great to be back home!

are you originally from Michigan or somewhere in the midwest? Seems last year I was trying to locate the front cowl and grilles for a GI in Iraq and found it in Oklahoma at a junk yard but the guy was arrogant and demanded $700.00 for it.

Yogi442, Only 350 '77 442's were built total. To my knowledge, most had the 350 turbo trans standard. My '77 Salesman order catalog and parts catalog do not show the 400 trubo trans to ba available on the Cutlass. Only the 88, 98 & Toro. I have a '77 442 with a 403 with only 62,000 miles and it came with the standard 350 turbo trans. My Dad ordered the car new and the trans has never been out of the car except for cleaning and detailing.

you are right, being the last year for the big block 455 was 1976 I totally forgot that as no 455 was available and was replaced with the 403 that they went to the TH350.

Yogi, yes, I am the GI you were dealing with while I was in Iraq, thanks for the help. I still haven't found a front end yet.-BTW originally from Missouri. The car is still there, I'm trying to find a way to get it here that I can afford.
JWO, the 77 that I have is also one of the 350 made in 77. Came factory w/ 403 and TH350 trans. 241 rear end

This information is what I received from Helen Early many years ago.:

Production #'s:
70,155 Cutlass S Hardtop Coupes Produced
Engine K-L80/403 C.I.D.-02,488
Engine R-L34/350 C.I.D.-58,235
11,649 442/W29 Option Produced

The G-37 Cutlass S hardtop was the only model to receive the W-29 package, with 11,649 produced, the largest number during the seventies.
 
I just joined the forum and I saw you were from Arlington, I am also. I have a 77 442. The car has been in my family since it was new. My mother bought brand new from the dealer and it was my 1st car. The car has been sitting for several years now because I've been wanting to restore it as it's in pretty bad shape but there is so much work it needs.

I've had trouble finding parts for my car also but I had a friend that found a junk yard that had several 73-77 cutlass in it and I've gone out there a time or two to get parts as I work on the car. The yard is in Hurst but it's only a 15 min drive. I can't remember the name right now but I'll look for it
 
:thumbsup: Thanks Blue, I'll try to look through that bone yard when i get time. You're right, Hurst isn't too far away. If it can lead me to some of the rare parts that I need for my car it'll be well worth the trip. If you can remember the name that wold probably help.( I don't know the area too well-I'd have to google it)
 
Doug, I have the same info from Helen Early, but mine was broken down even further. Of the 11,649 W-29 442 Cutlass 'S' Hardtop Coupes produced, only 350 of that combo were equipped with the engine option K-L80 403.

There were 70,155 Cutlass S Hardtop Coupes built, not all had the W-29 option.

Of the 11,649 W-29's built, only 350 had the 403. I'm sure many of the Cutlass 'S' Coupes had a 403, but not with the W-29 option.

The place was called Little Johns I think. I use to have a card for the place but I lost it. They are really cheap. I picked up new door panels and a few other things all at one time and I only paid $20.
