I have had my speedometer act up since I got it. If you drive for 15 minutes or so it will start to work. It just start by jumping up part way if the correct speed and soon works perfectly. But if you use the signal light it will flicker up with the signal light and back down and up with the signal light. It is
weird. Also if you let off the gas it will sometimes show you the correct speed and when you touch the gas pedal to speed up it will drop . Any ideas

I'm thinking that it could be a chaffed wire or bad ground. Does this sound like I'm on the correct track? Thanks in advance ken

I'm in the same boat with my 1990 98 Ken. The other behavior is that when the speedometer is being erratic, the speed can be changed by turning the parking lights on and moving the dash dimmer up and down. I'm going after the ground also since my Driver Info System seems to be reporting MPG correctly. I know they are 2 separate outputs from the ECM, but still...

I'll do some testing in the next couple weeks and keep you posted. If you make any headway, please let me know also.

I take back my comment on the 2 separate outputs; I/C & DIS use the same output from the ECM; so it has to be a ground or a faulty speedo. CC module uses the other output from the ECM.

Appreciate you telling me what you Have found so far. I have been super busy at the moment and it's been raining here. So I'm just waiting for some nicer weather to investigate but I think that it is a ground issue. If my speedometer starts to work it will jump up a little not correct speed but if I turn on the signal light (either side) it'll show correct then drop back down and repeat. I also seen after a hard rain it went to 79 km/h and stayed there for a minute or so

Ok just a follow-up on this one: So tested powers/grounds/signal to the speedometer everything reads as expected. In the cluster it is 3 connections (as mentioned) and the speedometer feeds the odometer/trip odo. It looks almost like there is some burning/dirty connections on the back of the speedometer board. I have a salvage from ebay on its way that I'm not holding my breath on. May reach out to this company: Oldsmobile Instrument Cluster Repair 1982 - 2004 | ATS and see if they may be able to give me any other direction or quote me a repair for the cluster.

K I have replaced the cam sensor and adjusted the crank sensor and it seems to run amazing. Then you turn it off and get in after and not long it starts sputtering and shuts off and will restart but acts bad. If you turn it off and wait a minute it's good again and soon as you drive a few hundred feet it starts acting up again. Very frustrating when I and the garage can't figure it out. Is it a wire. Just says code 42 open/ ground on est. Also I have no radio stations. None and once in a blue moon I can here a station just long enough to say it was there the static again. Is this a wire issue or computer? Any ideas is greatly appreciated
