Turn signal flasher on 00 Intrigue

Hi,
I have a 2000 Intrigue, I'm having problems with my turn signals. They only work intermittently. When they're not working, I can get them to work by jiggling the hazard light button, basically if I push the button to the side. I thought that maybe the turn signal flasher was bad, does anyone agree? I've looked long and hard under the dash to try to locate the flasher, but I just can't find it. Does anyone know we're its located or what it looks like? A picture would be awesome, but if you can give me a detailed description where it is, I would appreciate it. I probably spent an hour under there and couldn't find it.

I don't have my owners manual with me. The manual shows which of the two fuse boxes the flasher is in. I belive it the one inside the car.

Open the front passenger door, and on the side of the dash board you will see a slot cut into a plastic access panel. You have to pull pretty hard to get that panel off. Inside, you should find the flasher relay.

When in doubt, consult the manual :)

I checked the fuse box in the compartment on the passenger side, it only has fuses, no flasher relay. There are circuit breakers for sunroof and a few other things, and then just fuses in there. I'm sure its not a bad fuse since it works most of the time. Any other suggestions?

Well...after consulting the manual, I have concluded that there is no flasher relay :blink:

Other Intrigue owners including myself, have noticed various problems with our turn signals. I have replaced the front bulbs, but it made no differance.

Other forum users suspect that the bulb connector contacts my be the cause. I would start with the bulbs, and see if that helps. Good luck.
 
I have a 2000 Intrigue and have replaced my flasher oscillator:

The flasher is the hazard light button (sometimes you can push the flasher button a few times to get your directionals to flash). To get to it, the center air vent to the right of the hazard button needs to be removed. But be careful the vent has about 9 plastic tabs that hold it in place. Some will come out easy and some will need to be messaged loose.
 
hazard switch is part no#10401280 and is about $40.

you will need a set of narrow flat-head screwdrivers.

Use the screwdrivers to remove the center air vent. This is glued in and there are three minor locking tabs that hold it in on the top and bottom. The middle tab is a little bigger than the ones (2) toward the sides. The whole vent will come out completely.

The flasher trim plate also comes off if you want to (use very small flathead screwdrivers), but it isn't necessary.

Once the center air vent is out there are two locking tabs that hold the unit into the dash. Put you hand in there and squeeze the two (you will can only see the one) tabs together and the unit will easily pull out. (The tabs are toward the socket end.) Place the unit on the top of the radio. Remove the wire socket connector to the flasher by pushing on the tab and removing the socket.

This is the hard part: May need two people.

Use two screwdrivers simultanously and push in the green tabs and drive the switch out forward from the mount.

Replace switch.

This whole process should take less than 1/2 hr. Once you do it the first time it may take 10 minutes max. I did it with one person.

Badsey, thanks for the help, did just as you said and got it in and out in about 40 minutes, thanks again!!!!
 
that will be $240 (4hrsx$60/hr) plus parts. (and you're getting a deal because it took me at least 6 hrs)

I had to take the dash completely out to replace that thing!

OK, so it only takes me 10 minutes and 10 minutes to talk to the parts counter chick. But I get paid for the full 4 hours in approx. service time.

I think I chipped a nail also -- of course I won't (can't) charge you for that.


I have honestly seen people on the Internet say they paid $500+ to get it fixed.
I toggled with the hazard switch for 9months before I fixed mine. --Mostly due to the assumed costs.

6-7 payments before my 2000 Intrigue is paid off.
 
The problem part is what they call a multi-function switch. Its expensive and not really easy to get at. I have the excate same problem with my 02 Intrigue

instructions worked nicely for removing this.

I used a putty knife on the bottom edges of the center air vent and it practically fell out.

There wasn't much slack with the cruise control wiring so that connector had to be carefully removed first. That gave me enough room so I could move it around and get the hazard switch connector off.

Using two flat blade screwdrivers was definitely the way to go to get the actual switch out of that holder. Was still pretty difficult as I did it without help.

2001 Turn Signal Switch Issue

Hey everyone, so my gf bought a 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue (from her grandma) with only 25,000km on it. Yes that's right....25,000km. Anyway I drove the car the first 3 months she had it with no issues (I broke my ankle and needed an automatic car)......

she has been driving it for a month or two know and the turn signals would stop working randomly (hazards still worked)....so checked the fuse it was fine....figured it was the whole assembly/switch....so took it out and noticed the contacts were black and burnt up looking. So I went to the junkyard and got myself another switch (good looking contacts), swapped it out....what a pain in the ass btw. So she drove it for a couple weeks no issues at all, then today they started randomly not working here and there.....

I know this switch COULD have the same issue since its a junk yard piece....but as I am unfamiliar with this car, is there something I should be checking before I try and find another switch and swap that out?

Hey, I still have THREE Olds' cars (as of 08/2018). So, I'm allowed some slack. :)


Parts fail because of use and because of age.

Since the 70's, to put it "nicely", GM has been infamous for doing analysis and design to prevent parts from being "too expensive from being designed/built/made to last too long".

So.............
Regardless of the miles or usage of your GM ******* ******* ******* ****** Olds car, some parts are still expected to fail.
Especially anything exposed to possible rust (like the pure cr*p GM uses for brake lines).

This is also one of those "Model/Make/Manufacture" problems that someone has to know about.

For many GMs, the issue with the turn signals is actually a problem with the emergency flasher switch. On the Intrigue, that switch is on the dash.

Push it in/out a few times.
That will often fix the problem - for a some amount of time. :)


For a better solution, you want:

BTW, also check the rear trailing arms for rust. Along with the brake and fuel lines.

Still, fwiw, my gas electric pump was still going strong when I replaced the assembly a few months ago. My 2000 Intrigue has ~197,000 miles on it.
I wanted a working gas gauge again. That's a whole other adventure.

I had the same exact issue with my turn signals on my car and the culprit was the hazard switch. My car has 115K+ US miles on it.

It's built into the Hazzard switch replace that and they will work
 
Just FYI, you can open up the hazard switch to remove the switch/PCB assembly from the green housing. It's a little tricky, but if you have some small flat headed screwdrivers like for glasses, you can pry the release tab to allow it to slide out.

If you spray a bunch of component cleaner on the sliding contacts while pressing the button, this will get it working again without needing to buy a new switch.
