So I have an 01 olds alero v6 3400 turd

Last year I had to put heads on it.. Was a pain in my ass.
I still have been having intermediate over heating problems.

Yesterday, I was driving and it over heated which is almost normal now.
I realized that even with the water spewing.. The fans weren't coming on..
So my friend Dave came and check the relays and fuses and they were ok... then we checked the temperature sender/ sensor.. jumped it by connecting both ends and the fans came on.. after a really hard long drawn out start..
drove it home about 15 minutes and then today I went to the store and bought and installed the new temperature sender sensor..ACDELCO Part # 213928

and now the fans seem to be coming on.. I went to drive it.. after I originally installed the new one and about ten minutes into driving the TEMP. Gauge in the car stopped working..

I nursed it home and when I got home the fans were still running in the car.. Maybe because I had the defroster on.. I was told that when they are on the fans will run
Please help.. shoot me and email if you reply, mouhuan@gmail.com.. otherwise it will be hit or miss if I check it

Thanks a million in advance

Any time ive had fans fail or just come on when the ac (defroster makes ac come fyi) is turned on. The fan has always been my problem. Replacing it solved everything. I hope it does the same for you. And you thermostat could cuase ur prob too.

Two more things - with a cheap BlueTooth OBDII adapter and a program like Torque Free on an Android cellphone or Bluetooth-enabled tablet, you can see what temps the water actually IS at.

It'd be interesting to see if, for instance, the ECU thinks it's 195F and the gauge points to approx. 220F ... or vice versa!

Also, if it's under about 205F (from memory), the fans won't even kick on just on temp.

the fans are coming on just fine.. so I dont if that could be the problem.. My main problem now is that the temperature gauge in the car is not working.. I bought the connector that fits into the temperture sending unit thing and put it on... still the temp gauge in the car dont work.. any suggestions to why that is.. i also already checked the fuses and cleaned the positive terminal.. which has some gunk on it

where do I get this adapter.. and honestly i d like to have it work in the car.. obviously I not going to want to have my phone on at all times trying to figure out whats wrong or if its over heating or not.. because if you get past three quarters on the heat thing you will almost certainly blow the heads

basically I think the car is running fine now.. because the fans are coming on almost right when I start it.. but now the temp gauge in the car doesn't work.. how does that just happen... If I can get the temp gauge on the dash to work I think i ll be ok Its just weird because when I put the new temp sensor in.. It worked fine.. Then I let it sit a couple of hours and tried to drive it.. it was working fine.. then it just stopped and hasnt turned back on.. Even with me changing the connector that fit in it from the car.. figuring that if you change the sensor you also have to change the adapter that plugs into it

I bought mine off Amazon.COM .

Torque Free can be parked in the background while driving and datalog what you want, so you can see what's happening.

However, if you want different - there's USB OBDII adapters available to use with a laptop (leave it running to the side), also there's moderately inexpensive BlueTooth Android tablets available as long as you don't mine 4" to 7" screens. These are also possibilities.

They make WiFi adapters to work with the various iDevices (iPhone, iPad, iPod ) but they do tend to cost more.
