I have a 1997 Achieva SL 3.1L V6 and I've started to have no dash lights more and more and more lately. When I turn the key to the "on" position sometimes my dash lights will come on, other times it will take anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes for them to come on!! When they don't come on the car cranks and starts for 1 second then shuts off.
Things I have tried are - Brand new battery, brand new GM ignition switch, brand new GM ignition passlock (just the sleeve that goes over the key ignition). And then I've tried to program the car by following the GM guide. Start car then keep the key in the "on" position until the security light goes out, but the security light never goes out. I had the car in the "on" position for 40 minutes!
None of these have made my car starting any quicker, I'm out of ideas!! It's very frustrating and unreliable. I just ordered a GM passlock security bypass kit which was reasonable in price and had 5 star rating with several reviews.
Any ideas to what the main cause of this issue is?? I've searched for hours everywhere and no success.
