My sisters car got broke into last night and the perp destroyed the key ignition with a screwdriver while trying to steal the car. I think I can fix it myself I just want to make sure what I'm getting into. Any advice would help. I assume I have to pull apart the dash to get to the actual ignition then take out the old one and replace it with another one. Is it that easy?
Thank you:)

ignition switch replacement ?

I have a Chilton's manual which gives precise instructions of this procedure , but I have to tell you the " Warning " that precedes the removal and re-installation instructions . It is as follows : " You must perform the Body Control Module ( BCM ) theft re-learn procedure after replacement of the ignition lock cylinder . Failure to perform this re-learn procedure means the BCM will not function properly . This means the vehicle will not be theft protected by the Passlock system and the engine may not crank or start . GM recommends that this procedure be performed with their Tech 2 or equivalent scan tool " . It does list an alternative " threat deterrent re-learn procedure " that can be done without the Tech scan tool . The removal and re - installation of the ignition switch is a lengthy process but if you think you are capable of doing the job yourself , I will email you the instructions .
