How well is your MPG

Just out of curiosity I have been keeping tabs on my fuel economy.

My stats are: 24.3MPG / 1895miles / 86.01 gallons of gas
Or
Canadians: 9.67liters/100km / 3049km / 325.59 liters

I do mostly highway driving and maybe going 60mph max with a couple stop and go areas.

What they clam is 19 mpg city / 28 mpg highway / 23 combined.

Is anyone doing better?

I keep a calculator in my car to check the MPG and it's normally 23.5 to 24.5 in mixed traffic.

I've always thought it's better to lock out the overdrive gear unless really needed. Fewer shifts means less wear on the clutches. So I have the trans in gear "3" unless I'm on the interstate. I could perhaps do a little better on mileage if I wanted to. But to me the car feels more normal to drive that way, like the 3 speed trannys I grew up with.

23.5-25 mpg is where I typically fall these days with a 3.5L at 200k. It used to do a little better but I'm happy given the age of the vehicle.

GLS should get 1 or 2 mpg less than GX and GL Intrigues, due to the 3.27 gear.

Best I have ever done in my GL is high 32's on level Interstate, with the cruise set. Worst would be 18, leadfooting it around town. Anyone getting under 18 mpg, likely means some maintenance is needed.

I don't think Intrigues are bad at all on gas, considering the era they were built. Modern cars are still mid 20s / low 30s. You can save a lot of money buying a nice condition Intrigue under 100K miles on it, while paying a little more in gas over the years.

It's a proven fact that a lower viscosity oil will give your vehicle a somewhat better MPG. The only question is: How does it affect your engine's wear. Yes, many people must use low viscosity engine oil in the cold weather.

Not all GLS' have the 3.27 gear ratio. Mine certainly doesn't. It was only on the Aurora's and some GL's/GLS' with the gold trim package or special order I believe? My friend Ryan knows more on that than I do. He's driven one and said the pedal isn't as stiff as the 3.05 is.

i believe it was mostly intrigues with the precision control system option that included a different 3.29 gear ratio and not necessarily being a GLS.

The 3.05 ratio is on all 3800 engines and the 3.27 ratio is on all 3.5 litre engines. ;)

No, the 3.05 gear is standard with 3.5L Intrigues. My GL has it.

The explanation that the 3.27 came with PCS - instead of the trim line - sounds plausible. Maybe most GLS's were ordered with PCS, which led me to think that it was the trim line determined things. I was unaware that GL's could be ordered with PCS...

OK so I Google'd around. Sounds like PCS could even be ordered on GX's although I bet that was pretty rare:

PCS is optional on all 2000 Intrigues, but requires GX buyers to order the optional full-function traction control that's already standard on the GL and GLS.

Good hwy car, but sucks in the city I can push 30 on the hwy, but city I have never done no better then 15.5.

that is so amazing about this engine!if you are doing 16 or so in local driving then something is awry somewhere.i removed the big spring, run cool most of the winter, circulate crushed walnut shells in my coolant and drive as if i had an egg between my foot and the accelerator pedal.life here is good and i will never face a head gasket repair.i am so sure of this that i promise if it happens while i still have this car i will post the bad news.

I got 29 mpg from Vegas to Reno 460 miles 75 mph on cc with no traffic (high desert drive) next tank 16 ish mpg in short distance driving (new car and a tad heavy on the pedal) but that is in Reno at @5000ft and 10 min warm ups on cold 9 degree mornings 40,000 miles and only my second tank of fuel

I recently moved 3 miles, and have been making many short little trips between the old residence and the new one, plus short 2 mile trips to the local big box store for cleaning supplies, paint, etc. Been averaging 16 mpg doing this. :)

getting roughly 16 to 17 local and 27 to 30 on highway. Did an oil change and other repairs that seemed to help a bit.

I think at one point I was getting 12 city/20 highway. Looks like I am finally back to similar mileage as the rest of the intrigue owners.
