Hello all,
I'm working on my GF's 99 Alero. After turning the car on, the only thing that works on the dash is the radio. All dash functions do not register, the windows will not go up or down, the heat\ac does not work, mph\rpm\fuel all stopped working but the radio works. Has anyone had this happen or know what to buy for this problem? I've checked all the connections going into the ignition and any other connection that is visible. She said if she hits the top of the dash really hard it comes on sometime's but like I said all connections appear to be solid. Is there one connection that controls everything I mentioned that's not working? All and all help is appreciated! Thanks

Pat

Just to add to this. The flashers, blinkers, headlights and the wipers work.

Cluster lights function but thats it. Widows still will not go up and down and it seem the instruments are not receiving a signal. Maybe its the instrument cluster itself. What sends the signal to the instrument cluster?

I checked the three plugs going into the BCM and they all look excellent. No corrosion whatsoever. All the fuses are good as well.

may be a bad ignition switch

Just guessing here, but it could be one of the contacts in the ignition switch is bad.

She never had this problem until her father replaced her old ignition with a new one due to the passlock problem the Alero's have. Now that she has a new ignition and no longer has starting issues, we now have this issue to deal with.

Same Issue

I have a 99 Alero and i'm having the same issue.. going to change out the cluster to see if that solves the problem.. also my existing cluster was changing from KM to MPH on its own.. and when it was reading KM in the odometer.. the RPM gauge would just run all over the place.. not sure if changing the cluster will fix my problem but a shot in the dark is better then a sitting duck..
