Air pump question

Steve, the fuse for the 3.5L V6 is just in front of the anti-freeze overflow tank, and to the right of the LH brace. The box is on an angle. You cant miss it.

Incidentally, if anyone needs any of these air pump motors, I have two here, if anyone wants them. I've repaired the wife's in her car three times. I have the motor and mounting bracket, but that's it.

5150- I'd take one since you're offering, mine has been whining lately and I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

Can I disable the pump using the 50 A fuse until I can fix it, and if so, where would one find the fuse? Will it affect any other components?

Yes and No. You will get a CEL code after you pull the fuse.

And to help with above fuse location description...

Thanks for the info. I have a 60A fuse, and I was tired of the turbine sound so I did pull it. I got the service engine light, and I'll assume it is a CEL code as you mention (I don't have a scanner). I had to order the new pump from gmpartsdirect.com since NO ONE carries the after market version. $176 dollars and it should be tomorrow. I'll post on how it goes after I get it installed. Thanks for the offer 5150, wish I had seen it sooner.

Install went fine

I got the air pump in and installed it just fine (I tried to do it without taking off the tire, no dice). There was some water in the line, no too much, but too much for an air pump. I put the fuse back in and everything seems to be running OK. The service engine soon light went off after a couple of days. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have a core if anyone knows of a good recycling program:)

I'll take one if you still have one.

Thanks,

I am very grateful for this info. I am having the same problem. I always wondered what that whine was from !! Thanks.

Has anyone had this air pump go off erratically? It will fire as normal when the car is started, but then it will go off for 3-4 seconds, stop and repeat a few times while driving. Never had this happen before. The CEL code hasn't gone off yet, so I'm hoping its okay.

Help

The noise your describing is coming from Secondary Air Injection pump. Yes my 2001 pump was made by Bosch also. Mine first started to make a gurgling noise, like a diesel engine sound. I left it go until the pump froze up, popped the 50 amp fuse and the check engine light came on. Code P0410: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System. When I took the pump out there was water in it. The dealer wanted almost $200 for the part. I bought one from GM parts direct online for $129. The replacement pump is not as quiet as the original. If you say you are still under warranty bring it in.

I have a similar problem. I have replaced the air pump in my aurora and my mechanic is telling me it the secondary air injection ump. I got the part from a junk yard. Do u think i's an easy so it yourself fix?

check all related vacum lines that hard plastic gets brittle & cracks. found that on my 2001, aqlso the shield upgrade kit is still available from GM. this system has too many expensive parts to just start replacing stuff till the light stays out. check everything before goingto the parts store

I know this thread is old but I am giving it a shot and seeing if anyone is still listening. Would the problem with code 0410 cause the car to shut off when pulling out, cause the engine to rev at start and at pulling out? Does all these things intermittently.

mine never did & that darn code popped up a bunch till I got it right

Activity on this thread has reminded me, I forgot to post the rest of the pictures from my repair.

Here is the new bank 1 AIR valve again:

The diaphragm in the center had a hole in it.

wasn't it fun getting that bottom metal pipe connected ? drove me nuts

so i checked out my pump and it is whining so i am guessing that it is working could there be anything else that could be the issue ???

nice to see those old names on this thread and i hope they are all well.make sure you have the modified intake that will draw air from high in the fender so as not to suck water in the pump,if it is not too late already.i was able to remove my pump, lube it recondition the plastic encasement and get it back to being quiet.good luck.

Yeah, the check valves that are on each exhaust manifold. Test them to see if they hold vacuum, if either one doesn't there's your problem. They are kind of a pain to get to, and cost about $115 each...
