Just today my 3.5 seem to start losing power right at 4000rpm just as I wanted to pass a slower car. Under 4k all seems normal but even parked if I bring the rpm up slow at 4000 it starts bouncing back...

No engine light as of yet. Any suggestions?

What's the vehicle's history?

I'd suggest you start with basics - air, fuel, spark. Ensure that the air filter is clean, fuel filter is not plugged and fuel pressure/ volume is good, and that plugs and coil wiring are in good condition.

Plugs are a few months old as is filter.
Has 1 new coil pack.

Anyway on the way to work today it was fine.

I'm going to keep an eye on things.
Was basically needing to know if a sensor any where would limit the RPM, as that was exactly what it was doing, just like a rev limiter.

The engine is supposed to cut out at 4000 rpm when parked, that part is normal. My guess is that whatever sensor tells the ECU that the car is in gear, isn't telling it.

Now that sounds like some good deductive diagnosing. Helps to know some of the "magic numbers"
