97 eighty eight instrument cluster goes dead

Instrument cluster will shut off. Turns on for a few minutes then goes out again. Has anyone delt with this before? Is there some solder points that need touched up? Is it a ground issue? Is it a common issue.

I should mention everything goes out PRNDL and all dials, odometer too.
 
Picked up a spare instrument cluster from the local u-pull. Determined that the orange connector drives the odometer. The replacement cluster works on all accounts. So I'll be digging into the components attached to the orange connector and share what I find.
