95 Aurora won't go into OD

My dads car is having issues. When it wouldn't go into OD he changed the transmission fluid and filter, and it still won't work. Funny thing is, it works when its cold. Its not throwing any codes, but the engine light is on. Any ideas? Also how much fluid goes in the tranny? Autozone told him some rediculous ammount, he said he put 7 qts in though. It has the V8 if that makes a difference.

If you're saying the " check engine light " is on , I would suspect you do have a code of some kind ? Have you had it scanned ? Need more info ! If you have the owners manual , it should have a section on the specifics of engine fluids such as the transmission fluid capacity .
