'92 88 Royale keeps stalling

Hey everyone,
Ive been having some troubles with my 1992 88 Royale for the past few weeks, it keeps stalling on me and driving horribly. it doesnt seem to eb affected by heat or humidity in any way, it just stalls for no reason sometimes if i come to stop, or right after i start it. while driving it it seems almost as if its lost half of its horsepower, and at different points in pushing in the throttel the entire car will start shaking badly and it doesnt put any power out at all. ive also noticed the smell of gas, as if its running rich. we took it to the mechanic and he said that the cam sensor had gone out and that it is also bent so he has to take everything apart to get the sensor out. after this long description my question is what would you guys think the problem is? do you think the mechanic is throwing us through a hoop?

also on a side not, ive always wodnered, is ther eany performance parts or anything for these cars?

[NINETY EIGHT REGENCY]

My first Oldsmobile Ninety Eight (1994)had those problems and more.

I pulled out the receipts from the dealership.

These are the things I had issues with:

faulty coolant switch
coolant leak to the upper and lower intake
oil pan gasket leak
battery needed to be replaced
internal open in pcm
leaky master cylinder
alternator


That was not everything...

Those issues you have are closely related to those things I listed except the battery and alternator issues and master cylinder. I remember when my first Ninety Eight used to stall at stop lights and other places and I would feel like I had to floor the car to get it to go.

Just a thought.. when i got my car.. the catalytic converter was shot.
If its not working or has come apart inside the exhaust, it can cause your car to lose power, faulter and/or kill, not to mention guzzle gas (I added about 75-100 more miles to the tank when mine was fixed). Wouldnt hurt to look into it.

A bad/going fuel pump can also do the same things. Hope this helps.

Did he hook it up to the computer to get any codes? You can try to bring it by a local auto parts store, alot of them will put it on the computer fr free, and that will tell you if you have an electrical problem causing your car to run too rich.
