1 or 2 groove Power Steering Pulley..

I have a 1971 cutlass S that needs a new power steering pulley. They aren't too hard to find but a pulley with 2 grooves has been impossible. The car doesn't have AC (but based on having that kind of pulley Im assuming it did at one point) so my question is, if anyone knows, why do I need dual groove pulley? And if anyone has any knowledge on the subject - is there a way I can used a single groove in its place? Any help would be much appreciated.
