Hi. I just bought a 1998 Olds Intrigue. Really nice car, in good shape. I'm having a problem with the car randomly stalling while driving. Then it might start right away, or it might not start for 20-30 minutes. It cranks fine. Sometimes the car will do fine all day, or even a couple of days. Then it will be parked for an hour or so, and it will not start. Again, it will crank over just fine, just not start. If I wait for 20-30 minutes, the car will start right up. It usually starts right up in the morning. Ignition control module, and the Mass air flow sensor have been replaced. Of course it doesn't do this for the mechanics. I'm thinking possibly the ECM? Any thoughts?

What scanner do you have?
Imho, if you don't know, can't figure out, are too foolishly cheap, to get and use an ~~$40 scanner, then junk the car. Or, bring it to a dealer ($$$).

Also, fwiw, the mechanics you're taking the car to don't have a *******ing clue in the world about GM cars, or a number of other makes.
:)

First, note that there are massive amount of fakes and cheap sensors/parts out there.

A few things, yea, let's not use a scanner.
Sigh.......

1) It's NOT the computer.

2) Buy the following Crank Position Sensor from Rockauto
STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS PC30 {#10456161, 213151, DR6161}

3) Swear a LOT putting in the PITA sensor. You must disconnect the battery.

4) If you buy a sensor from anywhere else, then (imho, by definition) you're a fool - since you've been warned before hand about the massive fakes and cheap sensors.
Yes, that is why you MUST buy a CPS directly from RockAuto, or a GM part from a real walk in GM DEALER.

5) It might be the ignition module.
Again, there are a TON of cheap cr*p alternatives, and a TON of fakes.
Fwiw, get it DIRECTLY from a real DEALER that you walk into, or get
From RockAuto: STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS LX364

Rock Auto is one of the best places that avoids fakes.
Standard Motor Products are *top quailty*.

I do not benefit in any way at all by recommending rockauto.
In fact, I used to recommend Amazon for car parts. But, many people are to foolish to know if something is being sold by Amazon directly, or a reseller. Sigh...
And, I've "heard", a few times, that Amazon may have directly sold car parts that were fake.
Note that they may have been wrong.
But, *I* have switched (back) to Rockauto for many of my car parts.

Good luck.

Could be the crankshaft sensor has gone bad (can cause the timing to be off). Is the CEL light on?

Crankshaft sensor recently replaced. CEL light isn’t on. Everything seems normal, and the car runs great. But randomly doesn’t start. And sometimes coughs and stalls. After it coughs and stalls, sometimes it will start up again, and sometimes it won’t start for 20-30 minutes. Like something is resetting.

Might be a bad sensor, such as the Idle Air Control Valve, TPS, or another part. Does your acceleration feel sluggish? My car had a random stalling issue as well and would take a while to start (throttle body might have carbon buildup and my TPS might be failing).
