I use the AC Delco PF52 on my FWD "88" and "98"

When it comes to oil filters, the bigger the better. What do you use?

I also use AC Delco, Rocketguy, for my 1990 ninety eight. I think I use PF 47, the smaller one (whatever the auto parts book says). Aren't the PF 52 filters the ones used on many GM V8 engines (Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban)? What would the advantages, in your opinion, in having the larger filter compared to the smaller one? Have you seen any difference in running the larger one?

I believe it is the one used on the vehicles you've mentioned. Though I know it is slight, any time you can increase the capacity of your oiling system the better because it keeps the oil cooler and it will last longer before breaking down. Increasing the size of the filter means more filtering capacity, which will filter the oil longer before it becomes clogged enough to allow oil through the bypass valve.

The main reason oil filters have gotten so small is due to packaging the engine assembly into various cars.

On past vehicles I have actually gone to the store and started pulling them out of boxes looking for a larger one with the same mounting provisions.

I believe the quality of AC Delco is best as well.

I was just wondering if anyone had found an even bigger filter that works. I don't think a longer one would fit on these cars but a larger diameter one would.

.

PF 52... end of story... but not impressed with the "new" filters I bought, they changed the design and went cheap sheet metal mounting base, have not got to the bottom of this change yet, I will when I go to buy my next two filters.
