The VIC on my 1991 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo went out the other day. Does not come on period. Anyone know who works on these or where I can buy a replacement. Also the dash area where the mileage and etc shows up has been out for a while. My gauges still work as I had that problem a long time ago and had it corrected. Seems like I read somewhere that it may be just the bulbs that light up the mileage and trip odometer may be bad but I am not sure. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

God bless,

Clarence

Hmm, how did you keep a '91 running so long without ebay? :)

Use the following search on ebay:
trofeo (visual information center, vic)

Link:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?&_nkw=trofeo+(visual+information+center,+vic)

I see 2 listed, ~$425 & $700.

I suggest that you jump on the cheaper unit. If you're willing to risk someone buying it in the next few days, you could make an offer for ~5% less -- or ~$400. Most sellers that have a "make an offer" option, accept offers of ~5% less.

Or, try and find a similar vehicle on car-part. BUT, there's a HUGE RISK buying something like that (electronic - subject to failure) from a salvage yard that hasn't tested it, and doesn't offer a refund. Plus, you'd be out s&H both ways even if they do offer a refund.
For a part like a touch screen info center, you should try to find a place that you can drive to and offers refunds.

Good Luck!

New units vs Rebuilt

Yes, I looked at the couple of units that they have on e-bay but I would rather have someone rebuild mine or they have a rebuild unit I could trade for or purchase. Surely someone can rebuild the units.
If anyone knows where I could get mine rebuilt please let me know.
I purchased the car new in 1991 and have about 63000 miles on it. It has never been wrecked or anything. The gauges and etc. went out a few years, (1995 or 1996 I think) ago and I sent that back through the dealer and that cost me about $1000.00. I did not know about the capacitor fix at the time.
I would love to keep the car and get everything working as before but as it is now I can't tell the mileage and etc.
So if anyone has a rebuild service link for both the instrument cluster and the VIC please let me know. I don't mind spending the money if I can get the electronics working as they should be.

Thanks and God bless,

Clarence

My stepdad has a 89 trofeo that he bought new and I'm trying to help him fix it up a little. The digital dash has stopped working, the fuel and oil pressure gauges are lit all the way up indicating full fuel and max oil psi, bit the speedo and tach are dead, I saw someone mention the capacitor fix above and I searched for it but have yet to find a explanation for it. Any help on fixing this problem would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have a 1992 Trofeo for which the Visual Information Center has gone out twice now (Flatlined). The second replacement I bought on Ebay and it lasted 2 years. Any help on if there has been any new information on repairing these units as I cannot locate a used one. For what it is worth, Module Master in Moscow ID repaired my IPC but could not repair the VIC after I shipped it to them. They returned it to me all at no charge so I now have 2 VIC that could be repaired. BTY, Module Master was great to work with on both the IPC and the VIC.

I posted the solution for this on another thread. 92 Olds Toro VIC Help Needed

Let me know if you need anymore info, it’s actually a pretty easy fix.
