I'm considering the purchase of a Bravada with the 4.2 and AWD to tow a 3500-4000 lb travel trailer. I see it is rated to tow about 6000 lb, depending on things such as axle ratio, but I wonder if the 7.2 ring gear it has is really adequate. Any thoughts?

I would think you would be good to go (since you're not pushing up upon the limit), but being a 20 year old vehicle, you're also looking at things just wearing out (to some degree). I would think you would need to take into consideration the distances you are planning to tow and even the condition of the frame (is it a southern vehicle, northern salty vehicle, etc.). Good luck. I still occasionally tow a boat but it's probably just over 2000 pounds so not really apples to apples comparison.

I recently had to tow a 6x12 U-Haul trailer loaded to about 3500 lbs from VA to TX. 3 on the transmission is the tow/haul gear and will hold shifts longer and run at a bit higher RPM. But it ran really good. I’ve got 210k on my odometer.
