Cruise Control Intermittent Problem

I have a 2000 Olds Intrigue that continually shuts off the cruise control after a short period of time. The light goes off on the dash and the cruise disengages. The dash buttons seem to be working if I turn the cruise off before it malfunctions. I have to turn the car off before I can reset the cruise control once the car disengages the cruise. Any idea what part is malfunctioning on the system?

Had a similar problem with my 02 Olds Intrigue. It Occurred on a trip from Toronto to Cornwall On a 4 hour drive. Id engage it, a few moments later it turned itself off. After five attempts It came to the conclusion that my foot, on this trip anyway, would be my cruise Control system. The car was under warranty at the time and the that part was covered. GM mechanic told me it was a faulty switch (the big button on the dash). Ive had no problems since. Hope this helps.
