I bought a '94 Eighty-Eight Royale in Dec. of 2003 and have had many problems with the battery going dead. So far we have had to replace the alternator, the TPS, and have put 3 batteries in it in the last year, with the current battery being not quite 2 months old.
The other day I went out to go to work, but when I tried to start it, it made a clicking sound and wouldn't start. Headlights and interior lights worked. I went out about a half hour later and the battery had even less juice. Called roadside assistance, they got it started, I took it where I bought the battery, they tested the system and said everything was fine except that we needed to replace the battery posts & terminals because they were just temporaries and that was most likely the problem.
The car started fine the rest of the day and we changed the posts and terminals that evening. Started fine yesterday morning, but wouldn't start when I tried to leave work. Discovered that the positive terminal had been tightened too much and snapped. Replaced it and the battery wasn't strong enough to start the car. Jumped it, got home. Left about 15 minutes later, came back and this morning the battery is low again. All tests show that the alternator is working and is charging the battery, but it only charges it back up if I drive more than 20-30 minutes at a time.
Could it be that the battery has worn itself out in the last couple of days being charged/discharged, or could there be something more serious wrong with the electrical system? I need some ideas. I can't keep taking off work because this car refuses to start.
