I bought this 1988 Olds Ninety-Eight Regency Brougham a few months back for a really good price and I am in love it with. All that aside, I did buy it with the fading paint. It's not something that really bothers me too much but, I have noticed that it's been getting worse on the hood and trunk. I know that this is something that can't easily be repaired without a full repaint but I'm not really in the market for that currently. Does anyone know of anything I can do that can maybe slow it down or make it look as good as possible with the fading? The sides are totally fine, it's just the hood, roof, and trunk lid that aren't holding up as well.

I don't know how you define "fading?" The roof looks as though in spots the finish coat is gone and primer is showing.

I would 1) Wash the car, 2) Wash the car again, 3) Go over the car with a clay bar, 4) Then a cleaner, 5) Then a polish, and finally 6) a sealer.

Best to use a random orbit polisher for this.

Yeah, the roof is pretty dang bad. It's all the way through to the metal. I'm really just trying to stop it from getting any worse. The roof is a lost cause at this point, really, but I just wanna get the hood and trunk lid taken care of before they get that bad. A new paint job is out of the question currently and in the near future so I'm just trying to save what I have! I washed, clay barred, and waxed it the day I brought her home. I'll see if I can't pick up an orbital polisher, strip the wax, rewash, clay bar, polish, and seal it. The sides are a-okay, it's really just the hood and decklid (and roof, if I can stop it from getting worse) that I wanna try to preserve and buy myself some time. If worse comes to worst, it'll just be plastidipped... which is something I really don't wanna do to this old girl :(
