Resolved: 71 442 OAI Air Cleaner on Edelbrock Performer Intake Fitment

Hey folks, does anyone know what mods will need to be done in order to get an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold to work/fit with a 71 442 with 455ci engine under its OAI ram air hood and intake air setup?

I'm rebuilding my 71 442's engine and while it's out wish to increase its performance with a more modern intake, cam combo and higher comp pistons while still trying to keep as much stock appearance/functionality as possible.

I've measured my stock steel intake and verified that the 455 intakes are about 1 3/4" shorter than the Edelbrock Performer. However I've read that there are some tricks or mods one can make in order to get the Performer to work with the OAI intake and ram air hood including the following:

1) Flip over the OAI top cover that has the vacuum actuated flap door and remove the rubber seal thats connects to the air cleaner base. This sounds a bit hokey but maybe it'll be viable. Anyone done this successfully?

2) Substitute some '69 Camaro cowl induction OAI pieces into the existing 442 ones. This would include the Camaro intake flange, seal and filter/element cover. This one sounds interesting but I don't want to try and track down expensive parts like this without knowing for sure that it'll work.

Any pearls of wisdom or experience with making this combo work will be greatly appreciated...

The Fix: Learned today that Mondello sells the Edelbrock Performer with it's carb flange surface milled down enough to fit this intake and a carb under the stock Olds 442 OAI intake and hood. Their price for the Intake is the same as other retailers (Summit, Jegs, etc) but they do charge an additional $100 for the milling service when you buy the intake from them.
