Took my 2000 Alero to the mechanic because of a coolant leak. He told me that my inlet water housing is cracked and needs replacing. Is this the same as the water outlet housing?? If so, has anyone had any experience changing this? Is it difficult to do? Any advice is appreciated, as I'd like to save some money by replacing it myself.

The inlet housing would be the one that the lower radiator hose connects to.. It runs under then engine to the backside towards teh firewall and connects to the water pump.. This is basically a steel tube..

This one is not as easy as the oulet housing (the one on the head) But is not terrible... Good time to replace the thermostat when you do this since it will be out anyways...

You'll have to jack the car up and drain the coolant, unbolt the housing from the waterpump which is sort of under the exhaust manifold towards teh passenger side.. You;ll probably have to remove the heat shield form the manifold.. There is a stud that holds this tube to the oil pan that will have to be unbolted.. Take the lower rad hose off too... I think you;ll also have to remove the passenger side front wheel, and a plastic splash shield in the wheel well.. With that off you shoudl be able to see the crankshaft pulley on the front of the engine.. There will be a brace that bolts to the transmission (where the axle comes out) to the engine that I think has to be removed.. Then you can remove the housing, and thermostat.. Bastically to the reverse to put it all back together....
