When it comes to classic Oldsmobile rigs, enthusiasts usually mention nameplates like the 88, 98, Cutlass, 442, and Toronado. There's nothing wrong with that, but we often forget about the company's pre-1950 vehicles, which are both beautiful and quite rare nowadays. Well, I'm here to show you an Olds that deserves much more attention: the 1948. As you might have already guessed from the main photo, this oldtimer is not a glamorous restoration but a classic that's been dragged out of the barn. It was rescued just in time from a collapsing building, and it appears to be a proper time capsule with many of its original features still in place.

But what exactly is a 1948 Oldsmobile? Well, like many US automakers, Oldsmobile had yet to introduce brand-new vehicles in 1948. When automobile production resumed after World War 2 in 1946, companies sold revised 1942 cars to keep cash flowing as they prepared new-generation vehicles. Oldsmobile had three full-size nameplates at the time. The Series 60 was the entry-level model. Introduced in 1939, it was in its second generation in 1948 and included two lines—the Dynamic 66 with a straight-six engine and the Dynamic 68 with a straight-eight mill. Read more...
