97 Olds Bravada Brake Issue

I have a problem that's just started with the brakes.
When you apply the brakes, it pops the master cylinder cover off. It's just 1 corner, not the whole cover. Hasn't leaked any fluid at all and it still stops, but not the way it should.
The pedal feels spongy, like it needs bled, and there's a sort of hissing sound when you push the pedal.
I'll put the cover right back on, it'll work normal for maybe 4 0r 5 stops, then it pops the cover off again.
Any ideas?

It sounds as you have a bad master cylinder; perhaps one of the circuits is malfunctioning and blowing back into the reservoir and instead of pressurizing the brake line it is creating pressure in the reservoir. If you can observe the brake reservoir (cover off) with someone else applying the brake, and you see bubbles or an out flow into the reservoir, that might confirm the error's origin. In any case, it appears to be a serious safety concern, and needs to be fixed.

Definitely have you master cylinder checked, especially it doesn't hold the pressure consistently.

Ended up being a blown diaphragm in the brake booster.
