Rear Hatch quit locking

When I lock my 2002 Bravada, all the doors lock but the rear hatch does not. I hear
it click but you can still open it. I tried the key and get the same results.

It sounds as the latch connection has broken or become unlatched. First step would be to open the hatch and gain access to the mechanism, activate the unlock and see what moves. I'm thinking there will be a piece or linkage dangling (from where it is supposed to connect).
