Oil pump drive tip

As owners of 3.1 equipped Cieras well know, the oil pump drive is notorious for leaking. This sits on the top of the engine block where the distributor used to go before coil pack ignition. After changing my lower intake manifold gaskets I had a small oil leak. After every gasket had been changed the leak persisted.

I finally identified the source as the hold down bolt for the oil pump drive. If you are installing a new O-ring in yours be sure to tap the drive unit down after you think it's seated and apply sealant to the hold down bolt.

Always, always put Ultra Black RTV Silicone on the mating flange. But not on the O-Ring.
The bolt threads outside of the block so no oil leaking from there. Some anti-seize on the threads would be good. This goes for the 3.1 and 3.4 V6, in any GM vehicle.

Miss that Olds 442? Believe it or not, Kia may have something for you. The Kia Stinger is a large sport-oriented hatchback sedan in the mold of the Audi A7.
