The 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 that I have owned
since December 2000 is the best car that I have ever
seen in the 45 years that I have been driving.
It turned out to have a much higher level of performance
than I had expected. Acceleration in all speed ranges
is very close to my prior car, a 1972 Olds Cutlass 442
W-25 455. And the Aurora gets over twice the gas
mileage of the 442.
Interior comfort is excellent in all areas, especially the
air conditioning, which is the most powerful I've ever
felt. On a 105* day, the interior was cooled off in under
5 minutes.
Anti lock brakes, traction control, and the Precision
Control System make it very safe & easy to drive
in snow & ice.
There's only one bad thing about this car: I will never
be able to get another Aurora. In ending the production
of the Aurora and Oldsmobile as well, I feel that GM
made the worst mistake it has ever made.

gmontoya@statesman.com RE: GM, Bring back Olds! - Amen to that!! What a reprehensible, heinous mistake; but after reading the e-mails and other types of correspondence they received from me ever since announcing the phase out, they'll bring it back eventually! They just did not want to admit they stirred up a hornet's nest down in Texas over this! - C. B. Montoya

I have been using Sunoco Ultra, either 93 or 94 octane in my 2001 4.0 since I
got it almost 5 years ago. You get best power in the 4.0s made in 2001, 02 &
03 by using premium.

Mine has been good. But other people have had experiences ranging from good to fair to bad.

Well since your car has been good to you i was wondering what do you recommend i do too keep her running. When i get her back i will do an oil change . What weight and brand of oil do you recommend? what about the belt and timing belt? also what do you recommend for the tranny?
I dont have to flush the radiator because when i got in the accident it needed to be replaced. hey thanks for answering my questions youve been helpful.

As for the oil & filter, I use the factory recommended 5W-30. I use the GM PF-61 oil filter. You have to check the accessory drive belt on the right side
periodically to check for wear & tear. There are no timing belts. All Aurora V-8s have timing chains. Use the factory trans oil. That is Dexron III. As for engine oil, I use either Castrol GTX or Quaker State. Both are good.
I'm glad I was able to help.
