1983 delta 88 royale brougham gas mileage

Hello, I'm New to this forum. I just recently bought a 1983 delta 88 with the 307 in it. I have been getting 14 mpg and I have heard they are capable of 20. The problem isn't my driving because I drive it extremely smooth. No hard exceleration nor do I speed. Just was wondering if anyone can help me out or tell me what they get. Thanks!

I get a measly 15 mpg on my 85 olds (307, v-8, 4 barrel w/od transmission). With gas so damn high in the republic of california its hurting me big time. I have owned my olds for over 16 yrs (5/1996) & the gas milage has always been poor even though i did this & that.

Smile 14 MPG city - 25 MPG highway/ 30 MPG Diesel

14 MPG city - 25 MPG highway/ 30 MPG Diesel

These are the real world Mile Per Gallon for the car.
Keep in m ind you are running Ethanol blend.
Ethanol Blend will reduce your mileage by at least 20%.

If you are on a flat interstate, with a moderate load of
3-4 people and your car is in Overdrive on the transmission
a 307 can get 25-30 MPG. This assumes all the elements
of the car are modern ( air filter, gas filter, oil filter, oil change
axle oil level, transmission filter is clean and fluid is recent)

these are now 40 year old cars. Nothing that is original should be
on them.

They have a rear parking brake. It cannot be dragging the shoes.
they have front disks brakes. they cannot have a seized caliper
which would also be a drag.

The air cleaner assembly needs the snorkle connected to the grill
funnel. The air under the hood is too hot.

the rubber hoses all over the engine need to be attached correctly and not missing, cracked or broken off, or connected to the wrong device.
It happens.

The power steering needs to have clean fluid and the pulley attached
and belt at the correct tension.

The MPG will immediately start to drop when you leave the interstate if you have the A/C on and you are in a city. It will be like a small pickup truck.

If you are in a cold climate, you can boast your around town MPG by installing a BLOCK HEATER. They consume 300 watts ( 50 cents per night to run ) and they save about $ 1,50 of gas every morning by having the motor skip over the " cold start / choke" function in the computer. I know . What a blessing here in buffalo NY.

Keep in mind your Olds is paid for!
My 2014 Escape 4WD gets 25 MPG on the highway and
it weighs about the same as my Delta 88 !!!!!!

Oh, and by the way, I just put $ 3,400 into my FORD when the rear
axle failed at 72,000 miles. Out of Warranty.

My Oldsmobile 1982 Delta 88 is still on its original axle @ 110,000 miles.

How much gas can you buy for $ 3,400??

That is the correct question.

Update I just drove 150 miles at around 50 MPH towing my boat which weighs about 1,000 pounds. My wife and I weigh about 500 for us both.
We burned around 7 gallons of gas. It was a gorgeous day at 75 Deg F.

Burned about 7 gallons of gas so I estimate we got 21 MPG. Not too bad.
The car was very comfortable towing, and we used 3 gear most of the time
not the overdrive / lockup mode.
