1987 Toronado - Wont start

I just replaced the ignition module, battery, alternator and rack and pinion recently. I drove to school, came home and parked it, went out a little late and now it doesn't start. It cranks fine, sounds like it wants to start then it kinda backfires and that's all I get. The only thing of any significance that happened between when I parked it and when I tried to start it was a pretty significant thunderstorm with a brilliant lightning display but I can't see that causing the problem. It was running like a champ when parked. Would anybody have any ideas where I should even start looking? There of course is no physical evidence on exterior of car of a lightning strike , but who knows...stranger things have happened lol. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a similar issue ... if I remember correctly it was the camshaft position sensor had gone bad.
