2001 Alero "surging:

My '01 Alero "surges" when driving on the interstate. Once I get to around 70 MPH it'll surge about 300 RPM's or so and then return to where it was.............the RPM is usually around 2500 and it'll jump to around 2800 before returning. It does this several times before stabilizing. Any ideas what could be causing this?
