2000 Intrigue no start

I would like to start off by saying that I do not know very much about cars and I'm learning as I go. I have read over so much information in these forums and I am just so glad that you guys are as knowledgeable as you are. Please be patient with me, I'm trying hard to understand and get this fixed. My boyfriend-who knows less about cars than I do-drives a 2000 intrigue... He started having lots of problems with things that were electrical in his vehicle. The main problem was the instrument cluster was going haywire. Lights flashing on and off, the car would die while we were driving down the road, the air conditioning would sometimes work and sometimes not... The list goes on. So after searching on the internet I read that one of the problems was the ignition switch. So I went and purchased a brand new one, installed it, and like magic the instrument cluster was back to normal. Except for when I went to crank the car nothing happened. It sounds like the fuel pump is priming, but when you turn the key to crank it, nothing happens. It doesn't click it doesn't do anything. So I noticed that the security light was staying on and I don't remember seeing it on before. When you turn the key to the on position security light comes on turns off for a few seconds and then turns back on and stays on. I have tried doing the 30-minute reset for the security because we have a passkey 3 system, and as far as I can tell I'm doing it correctly and nothing is happening. I feel like I need to rule out the starter & need to get under there and tap on it, though I'm not quite sure where it's at. Any help you could give me would be wonderful. I think you in advance for your time and advise...

Sounds like the key needs to be programmed in order to use it with the new ignition switch. My car did that as well with the OEM keys and original ignition switch, but, it cleared itself out later on and it hasn't done that ever since.
