Getting the air out isn't as hard as I've been lead to believe. Basically when filling an empty system, open the bleeder screw on the upper passenger side of the radiator, fill it, and close the screw when coolant starts coming out. Then leave it closed

The coolant level will settle in for the next 5-10 warm up cycles, so be sure to keep it topped off. The system will self-purge to some extent, but if some ....... doesn't RTFM and fills your system without opening the screw, leaving the radiator full of air, then you'll have problems. I say that with some malice, based on my experience from when when I thought I could trust others to do it right...

If you keep getting air in the system, or it overheats because the thermostat isn't opening, then you've probably got another issue, like a bad thermostat or a slow leak (heater core, crossover, etc).
