2000 Alero Noise

Hi everyone,

It's the time of year when I begin thinking about this issue as it always baffles me during the summer. It seems to be an issue with it being hot outside, though I don't see how or why that has anything to do with it. When I take off (or sometimes even when just idling), the engine sounds winy, like a lot higher pitch noise than the norm. This is the case for the first two gears or so, and then it levels out. It tends to not do this when the temperature outside is "normal" or cold. If I accelerate quickly, I swear it sounds like I'm going to blow the engine.

I've taken it to my mechanic, who is very, very good, and he said it's just a normal engine sound and nothing is wrong.

Unrelated, I've noticed the Alero is running a bit warm lately. It typically is right in the middle of hot and cold, but it's been a mark or so above. Is that normal for an Alero? I always thought it was strange it was in the middle, but now it typically runs higher than that (even when it's not hot outside).

The Alero has about 50K miles on it. I bought it from my grandmother in 2015.

When is the last time you changed the coolant? Also the 3.4 push rod engines had issues with intake gaskets.

I actually had to put a lot of coolant in about 2 months ago, as it was low.. but actually "changed", I haven't. Hmmm.
