rear head removal

Hello all
I am new to this forum and new to having an aurora too. I have a mechanical question about a 2001 aurora 3.5 I just aquired. It has a blown head gasket on the rear head. What I need to know is "can the rear head be removed with the engine still in the car?". Also where can I pick up the cam holding tool ? I know its quite a job and about the head bolt problems these cars have. thanks

I found the cam tool on ebay, so I have that part worked out . I figured this would be the place to get accurate info on the mechanics of these cars. Hoping we have some Olds technitions on here so I can pick his brains a bit. LOL
thanks in advance

You should be able to remove the head with the engine in the car.

You *NEED** the Oldsmobile Dealer Service Manual. Get that also on ebay.
Also, you'll need a good low torque wrench (1/4" drive) for the manifold bolts and the initial head bolt torque.

You also need new head bolts. These are torque to yield bolts.

As you figured out (that's good ), you can get a lot of cloned versions of the special GM tools on ebay. Imho, they are more than good enough for the DIYer - and much cheaper.

Good Luck!
