All Replacment Alternators have been to smallHELP please

Hello I have been working on a buddies 1984 cutlass supreme with 3.8L in it. It has been smooth sailing up until he decided to change out the alternator for a higher amp alternator. He went to autozone and bought what they told him he needed and he left his old one for the core charge(which they don't have any more), well the one he bought is physically too small it is roughly 6 1/4" from bolt hole to bolt hole(straight across) problem is his mount for his alternator has to have roughly a 7 1/4" bolt spread and I have been to every parts store in two towns and every junkyard I can think off but no one can help me. I believe it may be an 18si but I cant find any dimensions or one to actually hold in hand to test this theory. This car has no AC in it although I believe it did previously and I haven't noticed a heated back glass or anything. Please any help or insight will be greatly appreciated and used. Thank you very much in advance.

Do you still have your original? You could have it rebuilt to your specs!
The original unit should be a 15SI 80 amp

Here as link to 18SI which does not look like it would fit any GM product at least common street car!

Got any pictures and some numbers off the original?

No I sure don't, the guy im doing it for didn't know any better and he turned it in for core charge without any pictures or anything. I tried to get the core back but autozone had already gotten rid of it, so I have been dead in the water. I appreciate the info on what should have come in it that is more than I had before.

do you know of an alternator that measures roughly 7 3/8" from center to center? I have 2 pictures of the first wrong alternator sitting in place, these are the only images I have currently. They may be no help at all but its what I got at the moment. You can see how much my bolt hole is off in the top view image. The alternator is a Duralast part #DL7273 bought from autozone for 84' cutlass supreme with 3.8 and no A/C or back heated glass.

I believe it may have previously been converted to fit the CS130D style alternator which has a 7.24" bolt spacing. Does any one know if this sounds right?

Nope. I would go with a 27SI has the right dimension center to center and the right 10si,12, and 15 hook 2 terminal hook up. The only thing I can see that maybe a hiccup point is the pivot bracket has seperate bayonets instead of one. The alternator pulley is a single grove where as the 130 is serpentine.
