used aurora key fob programming question

how do i program a used key fob i bought off ebay to my 97 aurora?

i got instructions from them but there useless it doesn't work!
they say stick a jumper between connector pins 8 and 4 of the aldl connector then the doors will lock then unlock then turn the car to the on position and the doors will lock then hold the lock and unlock buttons up to 30 seconds to program the remote....but...

i do it and i connect the 2 pins together nothing happens then i turn the car on and the doors lock...but then unlock again then i press the two buttons and... nothing? WTF?!
