Low gas mileage? 12mpg V6 200k miles CITY

2004 Alero v6

Just bought and registered. Guy said it just needed alignment and I was willing to put a little more money since he went down on price. Drive for a little and a whole tank gets probably 170 miles? Now I'm a do it youreselfer and understand OEM and what not and I can do stuff like replace spark plugs, wires (air filter and oil is new) maybe try cleaning MAF and I found a mechanic that will clean my fuel injectors for 55$ and if I can, maybe replace oxygen sensors.

Now has anyone experience d this on Alero? So far all I've done is use fuel injector cleaner before I do the other stuff I think on a V6 I read I'm supposed to get at least 18-20mpg city and I'm getting 12? If I can get up to AT LEAST 15-18 I'll be so happy

What you think? I think it'll cost anywhere from 150-300. Thanks

Yes, real low on the mileage. I noticed that weather and even switching brands of tires can lower mileage. I own a ultra low mileage 2004 GLS coupe. I get 28-30 in town, but that is kinda cheating, since my in town is running 1.5 miles at 25 mph and the rest 40-60 mph the rest of the way to work.

My best was 34.1 mpg on the hiway for 3/4 of a tank. IIRC was about 360 miles. I was down at little with new tires which were inflated at little less 35psi than usual and was running in the mountains of PA. and got 31mpg. I will have to run them up to 38-39 next time and see what the wash out is.

When you do your startup, does the check engine light come on (meaning that it is working). And what I'm getting at, do you have any codes; seems a reduction in mileage of that magnitude would create a rich condition code.

Well I I seemed to fix the problem as I'm getting up to 15mpg and it seems like it's getting better. I filled up tank to top and I got 45 miles so far with gauge still in the higher pip which means I'm probably getting close to 20-25
I had to drive smooth and I used engine cleaner additives which seems to help
